Why Rome is a Dream Destination: My Journey from First Visit to Calling it Home
I first visited Rome as a 12-year-old during a New Year holiday, and the Trevi Fountain, or Fontana di Trevi, was at the top of my list of must-see places. In Turkish, we call it “the fountain of love,” and I was pleasantly surprised when our tour guide referred to it by its more common name, Trevi Fountain.
Rome quickly captured my heart with its rich history, stunning architecture, delicious food, and vibrant atmosphere. The city became a part of me, and I knew one day I would return.
From Barcelona to Rome: The Call of the Eternal City
At 15, I moved to Barcelona with my mother to study high school. Though I initially considered staying in Spain for university, Rome, particularly the allure of its historical and cultural depth, never left my mind. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study, but one thing was clear: no matter the subject, I had to study in Rome.
Fashion had always intrigued me, though I hesitated for years before fully committing to it. Eventually, I decided to pursue a degree in Fashion Design and began preparing for university, including taking Italian language courses. I applied to just one university in Rome, and fortunately, I was accepted. I spent the next three years studying fashion in the heart of Italy, surrounded by beauty and inspiration.
While Milan is often considered the fashion capital of Italy, for me, Rome was always the ideal place to pursue my dreams.
Life in Rome: Why I’ve Never Looked Back
After graduating, I made the decision to stay in Rome. The city has given me countless reasons to call it home, and I’ve never regretted that decision. Here are some of the many reasons why people fall in love with Rome:

Romans are famous for their friendliness, humor, and hospitality. While the city attracts tourists from all over the world, the locals always go out of their way to share the love they have for their city. Their warmth makes you feel welcome, whether you’re exploring the streets of Trastevere or enjoying a leisurely meal.

3. Pleasant Weather Year-Round

6. The Irresistible Aroma of Coffee
One of the best things about mornings in Rome is the irresistible smell of freshly brewed coffee and pastries like cornetto. Whether you’re sitting in a café or walking down the street, the scent adds to the charm of the city’s daily life.
7. A City Steeped in History
Every inch of Rome is packed with history, from ancient ruins to medieval churches, Renaissance palaces, and Baroque fountains. The city is like an open-air museum, where even the smallest details tell a story of its rich past.
8. Art and Architecture Lovers’ Paradise
Rome is a dream destination for art and architecture enthusiasts. Home to masterpieces like the Sistine Chapel, the Vatican Museums, and the Pantheon, the city offers endless cultural treasures. Its architectural beauty, from St. Peter’s Basilica to the Colosseum, is truly awe-inspiring.
9. A Relaxed Yet Vibrant Lifestyle
While Rome’s streets are busy with activity, the lifestyle here is surprisingly laid-back. People take time to enjoy life—whether it’s savoring a leisurely lunch, taking an afternoon nap, or simply strolling through a park. The slower pace of life makes it the perfect place to unwind and appreciate the small moments.
